CrossFit Kids is not simply a scaled down version of CrossFit, it is entirely and absolutely CrossFit geared toward kids and their specific developmental needs.
CrossFit Kids is the principal strength and conditioning program for many young athletes and the primary P.E. program for many home schools, charter schools. It is used by athletic teams, martial arts schools and many parents that want their kids to grow up healthy, strong and have a life long love of working out thus avoiding the common problems associated with childhood inactivity and obesity. Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Healthy living requires that our kids push, pull, run, throw, climb, lift, jump, effectively and safely regardless of whether or not they play athletics. Athletics is a specialized pursuit. Our goal is to support the specialist, but reward the generalist.
The CrossFit Kids program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for 4 year olds and elite high school athletes. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs. The needs of our second graders and our high school wrestler differ by degree not kind.

About our Kids Program
San Francisco CrossFit’s Kids program is a multifaceted, challenging, socially interactive strength and conditioning program for kids from ages 6 to 18. Our Little Athletes program serves children ages 6-13 and our Crossfit Teen program serves children ages 14-18.
As our children are becoming more and more sedentary and with childhood obesity rising at an alarming rate, there is a growing need to incorporate health and fitness into the lives of our kids. By laying a solid foundation of fitness ideals from an early age, we can reduce risk of disease, injury, and build a better future for our young ones.
Since CrossFit is a generalist program, our kids program follows a similar philosophy. We cover the broad skills and movements essential for life and athletics. Improvements in the gym translate directly to better performance on the soccer field as well as the playground.
We strive to make our kids program fun. Every session includes a warm-up, focus work on a basic athletic movement and or gymnastics skill, a short Workout of the Day, and games. As with the adult program, we find the universal scalability equally applicable to our younger population. Classes are structured to give the athlete’s progressive training in gymnastics and strength training as well as an increase in self-esteem and confidence.
Little Athletes: 6-9 Year Olds
This class lays the foundation for all future movements that our young athletes will encounter, whether it be sport-specific or fitness related. Athletes learn body awareness, coordination, and the fundamentals of gymnastics and strength training including forward/backward rolls, headstands, squatting, push-ups, and sit-ups. A sense of personal accomplishment is encouraged, as well as positive group interaction.
Little Athletes: Ages 10-13
Athletes learn more complex movements in addition to individual skill building. This class is structured to provide our athletes with a continuation of fundamental movements, but also introduces more dynamic skills such as handstand forward rolls, different squatting/pressing/deadlifting modalities, and pull-ups. More partner and team building drills are included to create a sense of community.
Our San Francisco CrossFit Kids coaches also offer private coaching to kids of all ages. The coaching is structured to give the athlete’s progressive training in gymnastics and strength training. The coach will work with you and your child to develop a program geared toward general fitness, proper movement, and/or complex skills that translate directly to sport. Private coaching is recommended if your child been sedentary for a long period of time, has significant health limitations, or would thrive in an environment with additional attention and accountability. Pricing for private coaching varies. If you are interested in one-on-one coaching for your child, please call us at 415-350-9762.
